yep I'm thirty......

I thought some magical thing would occur, the sky would open up and a giant token would appear marked 30 in gold, with stars and glitter as if I had achieved a mile stone or goal in a Mario Bros. Where's the castle, that nifty flag, Gold coin? So far I don't feel any change, except the urge to figure out who else is thirty, look into their life and see what the mark of thirty is for them, and maybe that's what mine is too. Otherwise I 'm basically the same, I do have slightly more obligations to be responsible in my life and I can mark off some goals I wanted to conquer. All in all, I'm thirty and that is okay by me.

While cleaning out the house I was able to reach some art supplies.

I figured it was best to put them to work, rather then donate them.

So far,

the oil pastels are forming this lady with direction.

Currently titled

"She'll Know the Way"

Hopefully this will be one I actually complete.

So far I worked about forty-five minutes to

an hour on her.

We shall see what develops.

Giant roots were unearthed.

A tiny new friend's image captured

this ghostly image of a praying mantis.

The remains of a dragonfly.......

and a mystery pod snugly attached to the pecan branch.

All found in a days work of the land.

The backyard is looking good......well better!

Jon mowed the lawn, then Roach took a catnap on the mower.

I created a bouquet from redwood sprouts, a pecan tree sprout, and the fresh blooms from what Vena calls the popcorn bush.

The sky is powdery blue, and there are many fresh blooms basking in the sun light.

The best time of year for bike rides

with fresh scents around every corner.

Bug fur!

That always makes my day.

Yes, I sit outside with my face smashed against my camera holding my breath within centimeters of flying bugs
and sweet smelling plants for long periods of time, each day.
Often I am so close to these buzzing creatures they bump into my lens
leaving behind their tiny body print smudge for me to clean.
No bugs were harmed in the making of these photos.

Lunch adventure, destination

La Unica's Fresh Mex.

Fast service, colorful pastries, fancy decor, tasty flautas, my favorite, and spicy tacos.

They were delicious.

A quick stop at Grocery Outlet yielded these

never before seen or heard of

Monty Python's Holy Grail Ale, Tempered over burning witches.

This beer rocks! tastes great and is very cool.

It got me started on my oil painting layout,

now in progress and awaiting another Brew fest to complete the sketching.

Picked up some flowers to bring spring into the kitchen.

Hung our freshly acquired hammocks.

At one point all the small animals were in the hammock with me.

They definitely create a sense of Summer.

Beckoned to enter.

A field of future dreams.

A road less traveled.

Death of Trees

Trees line the roads here, with orchards and gardens down every lane.

Old age in trees causes the production of fruits and nuts to slow.

These slower to produce trees are often removed.

Slaughtered to make room for more youthful, productive trees.

It saddens me, that with old age these trees are deemed futile, dismissed and evicted.

Leaving a barren landscape of what once was.

Like corpses stung along the ground, a sight of decimation and emptiness.

Roots pulled from the earth that once held them strong.

A graveyard of past employees who service is no longer desired.

Soon to be replaced by younger, more vibrant and attractive populous who's production will flourish then diminish just the same as it's predecessor.

To be fruitful, if only for a short time.

I hope when I am old and less productive that my roots will remain in the ground and not be uprooted from my home to make space for the youthful.

Instead, let me stand as testament to youth that one day you too shall be as withered, yet strong and wise as those who came before you.

Many things I want to capture in art or to photograph are seen as I'm aimlessly driving. Less often lost, more of being out and about with lack of a proper destination. I see things I find attractive and want to pull over, jump out of the car, camera in hand and capture this point of interest. Usually, I do not. Sadly, out of fear, I stay in my car sometime shooting through the windshield. Often just skipping this desired moment.

But no longer.

I have the urge and power to pull over in my automobile and stop, get out and take pictures.

And it doesn't matter what that other driver flying past me, staring at me, thinks of my choice for a frame.

I pass by thousands of small, personally eye catching rectangles everyday, possibly hour.

Most of them go uncaptured by anything but my mind's eye.

With intentions of finding and stopping

I was off.

Rounded the corner for gas.

Filled up next to this friendly smile.

Drove a little too far in the wrong direction.

Then to the "Lot"

I drive past this beauty on my work commute.
A nearly empty lot with lush green grass and this amazing front yard gate.

My car stops for yards sales! And often immediately makes u-turns at garage sale signs.

Today's stop yielded a "free" yard sale. Where everything was free but the tools.

Best sale ever.

Turning down random streets in search of something new,

I saw a small Museum sign, and followed it to the

Community Memorial Museum of Sutter County

What a lovely little place with history and a cute gift boutique.

With the awesome randomness found, I will surely follow through on my intentions of finding and stopping.

My favorite sunset spots, as found along my commute to Grass Valley, are often seen best from the passenger window. This sunset was happily captured on our way to Deceptive Cadence band practice; just as the sun was at the perfect height to give emphasis to all the landscape below.

He appears with said item, often times found cheaply or free.

I love the Telephoto and Wide angle lens.

but these Telephoto shots are super soft and I like the effect.

Fly sex, but sex none the less.
I know, why flies, why sex?
Well, as I was cleaning the yard this afternoon, these winged creatures flew at my head almost hitting me in the eye. Obviously, they were too entranced with each other to notice the cross traffic as they whirled around.
They landed with a crash upon this palm leaf. I ventured inside seeking my camera knowing full well they might not be there when I returned.
However, these love flies were still at it when I re-spotted them, camera in hand, right where they had crashed.
I was, literally, up in their business at this point; mere inches from the tiny things as they did what comes most natural to them.
An exciting event to capture for someone who truly loves the natural little things of life.

I briskly escaped the parking lot of work just as the snow was starting to stick Friday evening.

I ventured, carefully across the slick parking lot, up the ramp toward the tall pines that protected my car's resting place from accumulating snow.

I paused for a moment at this wall to capture the motion of the whirling snow.

I'm glad forty-five miles away, safe at home, it is clear skies with only a cloud in the sky.

I am still in awe of the magic of weather.
